  Competency in media and health information literacy (MHIL) is important as a tool for lifelong learning, which provides people with opportunities to make informed decisions about healthy living. In order to improve knowledge about how senior citizens lifelong learning can be supported, the study investigated various aspects of MHIL among seniors: motivation, information seeking behaviour and evaluation of information in the Media, from Health specialists and on the Internet (Ágústa Pálsdóttir)

  In order to fulfil comparative assessment of research activities of the universities of Ukraine and Belarus the authors introduced a set of bibliometric indicators. A comparative assessment of the research activities of corresponding universities was fulfilled; the data on the leading universities are presented (Vladimir Lazarev, Serhii Nazarovets, Alexey Skalaban)

  The three volumes of the Treatise were published between 2013 and 2017. It is for the first time in the Romanian LIS literature when such an amount of specialized information is brought together, in a single source: this is the first library science treatise published in our country, therefore it has become shortly a reference for all Romanian librarians and information science specialists (Corina Apostoleanu)

  This article abridgedly presents the key theoretical aspects of project management, the state of affair of foreign libraries using project management as seen in the specialized scientific literature from the last few years, and, last, but not least, an attempt to establish the degree of use of project management in Romanian libraries at the moment of 2015 by the means of an interview guide and a netnographical research of one of the Romanian professional online platforms, Biblos (Elena Cătălina Rojișteanu)

  Is there a way that the tablet guard in a Babylonian library from 700 BC, the armarius that took care of the VIII century cathedral-school library from York and the director of academic resources belonging a university would recognize each other as belonging to the same profession? The main goal the article is to oversee the development of the library management, using several objectives as viewing it through different perspectives (Corneliu Făgărășan)

  Open licensing (...) leads to building a more permissive exploitation framework, observing the wishes and both patrimonial and moral rights of the author. In order to understand its purpose or, better to say, the effects that open licensing produces, it is necessary to clarify some aspects that make these alternatives possible.   The Romanian Library Association started publishing Revista Română de Biblioteconomie și Știința Informării / Romanian Journal of Library and Information Science (RRBSI) in 2005, as a quarterly journal, with thematic issues. Since then, RRBSI has been one of the main academic journals in the field of library and information science, in the Romanian publishing landscape. Looking to extend its addressability and to increase the number of potential readers, in 2010 RRBSI became bilingual, all articles being published both in Romanian and English. The editorial board was also extended, including specialists from other countries. With this issue, the first of 2017, the Romanian Journal of Library and Information Science enters a new era. There are some major changes that we want to share to our readers. (...) Given the similarities regarding the history and development of South-East European libraries, the journal will focus on publishing studies regarding the theory and practice of librarianship in the countries pertaining to this geographical area. In order to support this new direction, the Editorial Board now includes professors and specialists in our field of interest from Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Moldavia, Turkey, but also from France and Spain. However, this approach centred on South-East European experiences is not exclusive and other topics may be covered. (Excerpt from `"A New Start" - Editors' Note)

  Am inclus în acest număr, care cu greu se poate subsuma unei teme unitare, articole pe subiecte diferite. Ceea ce le unește este însă actualitatea. Azi cred că acest lucru este de importanță majoră pentru cei interesați de progresul profesia noastre. De-a lungul anilor, revista noastră a abordat variate teme, aproape toate temele majore ale biblioteconomiei actuale, evidențiind îndeosebi experimentele sau realizările contemporane în știința bibliotecii din diferite țări, în ideea de a ține cititorii la curent cu ce e nou în profesie. Uneori acest lucru s-a făcut fără a se acorda o atenție similară situației de la noi. Nu avem încă o analiză temeinică a stadiului în care se află știința bibliotecii în România, văzută ca domeniu fundamental al științelor informării, poate cel mai bine articulat.

  I have included in this issue articles on different topics, which can hardly fit in a unifying theme, but the currentness of the papers is the common element. I strongly believe that for those of us who are interested in the progress of our profession, staying up-to-date is paramount. Over the years, our journal has addressed various topics, most of them being major topics of contemporary librarianship, highlighting the experiments and achievements in library science in different countries, with the aim to inform readers about the novelties in librarianship. Sometimes, we have not paid a similar attention to the situation in Romania. There is not a precise and thorough analysis of the status of library science in our country.

• Noi tehnologii în bibliotecă = New technologies in the library

  Cititorii noștri s-au obișnuit să găsească în paginile acestei reviste de biblioteconomie și știința informării, cu caracter academic, articole care se ocupă cu ultimele aspecte ale domeniului. În numărul de față, sub titlul Noi tehnologii în bibliotecă, continuăm această direcție, luând în discuție unele noutăți tehnice care se aplică sau se pot aplica în biblioteci.

  Our readers are accustomed to find articles dealing with the most recent aspects in the field, in this library and information science journal, of academic level. We continue this trend, in the present issue, under the title New techonologies in the library, emphasinng some technical novelties, which are applied or can be used, in libraries.

  Primul număr al revistei din 2016 propune patru lucrări care abordează teme variate: furnizarea de documente electronice în biblioteci, desfășurarea procesului editorial în mediul digital, managementul bibliotecilor și rolul structurilor infodocumentare din învățământul preuniversitar.

  The first 2016 issue of the journal brings four papers addressing various topics: provision of electronic documents in libraries, the editorial process in the digital environment, library management and the role of infodocumentary structures in preuniversitary education.

• Cartea de patrimoniu în epoca digitală = Patrimonial book in the digital age

  Aceste câteva articole publicate în paginile revistei sunt doar exemple ale unei activități, pe cât de laborioase, pe atât de puțin vizibile, de prezervare și punere în valoare a cărților de patrimoniu din bibliotecile românești, într-o epocă în care spațiul virtual a devenit realitate cotidiană. Ceea ce răzbate din toate, însă, este lipsa de mijloace de lucru adecvate din bibliotecile românești, nesincronizarea cu tehnicile și metodele aplicate în instituțiile similare din Europa, de unde și dificultățile de cercetare, conservare, restaurare a documentelor de patrimoniu de la noi. Acestea se traduc într-un nivel redus de digitalizare și într-o slabă prezență a cărților românești vechi în bibliotecile digitale și bazele de date pan-europene. Lipsa cronică a resurselor menține majoritatea bibliotecilor noastre deconectată de la evoluțiile occidentale, cu riscuri greu de cuantificat asupra patrimoniului de carte veche românească.

  The published papers are only suggestive examples of a lasting, very elaborated work, yet, merely noticeable, but so important for the preservation of patrimony books from the romanian libraries, nowadays when the virtual space has become reality. Unfortunately, there are some issues coming out from all articles: the lack of adequate means in romanian libraries and the lack of synchronization with the techniques and methods applied in the similar european institutions. These render very difficult the research, conservation and restoration of patrimony documents. Furthermore, they account for the reduced level of digitization and for the weak presence of old romanian books in the european digital libraries and databases. The permanent shortage in point of resources keep the majority of our libraries outside the western progress, generating inestimable risks for the romanian patrimony of old book.

  Actualul număr al revistei intitulat Rolul bibliotecilor în analizele scientometrice este dedicat prezentării metodelor și a instrumentelor scientometrice de evaluare a activității bibliotecilor.
  Cele patru lucrări din acest număr ne prezintă practici bibliometrice și indicatori de performanță folosiți în bibliotecile școlare românești, instrumente internaționale de evaluare a productivității științifice românești și două exemple de bună practică, cel de la bibliotecile universitare din Norvegia și din Republica Moldova prin Instrumentul Bibliometric Național (IBN) ca sursă relevantă pentru evaluarea științei naționale.

  The current issue The role of libraries in scientometric analyzes is dedicated to the scientometric methods and tools of evaluating the library activities.
  The four papers present the performance indicators used in Romanian school libraries, the international tools for evaluating the Romanian scientific productivity and two examples of best practice, one from the Norwegian university libraries and the National Bibliometric Tool (IBN) as a relevant source for evaluating the national science in Moldova.

• Bibliotecile specializate = Special libraries

  Ca o consecință a atenției pe care Revista Română de Biblioteconomie și Åžtiința Informării o acordă, prin membrii colegiului redacțional, tuturor tipurilor de biblioteci, acest număr este dedicat bibliotecilor specializate. Pentru o exemplificare cât mai relevantă a modului cum lucrează aceste entități în spațiul public, am selectat trei articole ce ilustrează activitatea unor biblioteci specializate în domenii diferite de activitate, privite din perspectiva instituțiilor care le tutelează.

  As a consequence of the attention paid by the Romanian Journal of Library and Information Science to all types of libraries, through the editorial staff, this issue is dedicated to the special libraries. In order to present relevant examples of working in these institutions, in the public framework, we selected three articles which illustrate the activity of some special libraries, in different fields of activity, seen from the perspective of their higher bodies.

  Articolele publicate în cadrul acestui număr al revistei ne arată cât de grele sunt începuturile, ce multe lucruri trebuie făcute înainte de a construi o bibliotecă în mediul digital, ce schimbări trebuie să se petreacă în mentalitatea celor care generează și prelucrează informația. Numărul este dedicat, de fapt, unui tip particular de „bibliotecă digitală” (folosind aici conceptul larg al acestei noțiuni, acela de colecție de documente bazată pe obiecte digitale de tip text, audio, video, hipermedia etc.) și anume acela
  al depozitelor digitale instituționale.

  The articles published in the present issue of the journal show us how difficult is to begin an activity, how many things should be done, before creating a library in the digital environment, what changes should take place in the mentality of those people generating and processing information. In fact, the issue is dedicated to a particular type of „digital library” (using here the general meaning of this notion, that of collection of documents based on digital objects that can include text, audio, video, hypermedia etc.), meaning institutional repositories.
